Glenda Irwin Grad Dip HSci (Psych)
“What does RedLetter mean?” It’s a term used in the UK for ‘a day spent so well that it stands out above all others; ultimately defining the coming days of one’s life; potentially pointing to purpose and thriving.’
Welcome to the therapy consultancy of Glenda Irwin — mindfulness therapist, Health Psychology major, NZAC member, author of books and mental health course material widely offered throughout Australasia. With nearly two decades of experience teaching nervous system regulation and a relational, strength-based approach to therapy, Glenda supports individuals and couples in discovering their thriving selves. Drawing on positive psychology and, when invited, rich philosophical perspectives, she offers calming, evidence-informed interventions that promote genuine wellbeing. Her work spans cultures, platforms, and borders — always grounded in a deep respect for the unique resilience within each client.
“What isn’t: Relationship, Relationship, Relationship? How we see our part in relationship to all things, is how we can make changes.
Mindfulness practices, the core of my approach, will give you back your sense of agency. Effectively, it enables you to gain clarity and supports personal choice. I like to refer to this as having:
Respons-ability.
It’s agreed (by those who are expert) that we all have some level of trauma. Heck, I often say, even our being born must have been a ‘wounding experience’. Working with those early experiences PLUS the presenting issue and personal aspirations: is the work of those who secure a thriving life.
Thoughts are one thing - but our behaviours are hard to notice until we turn up for ourselves.
”
“RedLetter days” are referred to as being stand out/excellent days in which we thrive.

What does consultancy look like?
Time commitment
1 hour or 90 minute sessions. This is client focused - so we assess how many sessions you need once we have begun. Every new client does an initial 90 minute session where I take a ‘case formation’ - basically, a history to NOW.
My approach to therapy
I am a mindfulness based therapist, prolific throughout Australasia. My work uses ACT, CFT, RLT & DBT, but the key to my approach is appropriate validation, relational emphasis and healing the Inner Child that runs our lives. I believe that to draw breath is to have won the lottery, but to keep winning we have to be present within ourselves.
Cost
Contact me to assess your therapy needs and what approach will work for your recovery and well-being. Standard sessions at $120 per hour. Please reach out if you are low-waged to discuss more affordable options.
NOTE : I am a member of the NZAC and a registered ‘Recovery Support’ consultant within WINZ. Find me on the NZAC website or via PsychToday.
For what issues?
People seek me out for agency over their lives. Anxiety, perfectionism, relationship and interpersonal challenges, self-worth, confidence, sleeplessness, busy mind, emotional regulation, doubt, grief, coping with ADHD or AuADHD, parenting… can you see a pattern here? All the presenting challenges are relational. We can look at where this began, address the past with an abundance of data supported interventions, and then work towards attaining thriving again. I am not adverse to directive therapy - that means I will name what is here, and I will reflect your stated intentions. This is somewhat like therapy with a coaching edge.
Mindfulness Practice
Is a way to self regulate the nervous system, by being attentive to the senses (including thoughts). Why bother? Because when we have awareness we have clear vision of goals, behaviours, patterns, reality. With mindfulness as a tool, we are able to truly turn up in our lives, rather than living within a world of “shoulds”, “adaptive child patterns”, and the general fog of distraction.
ACT; CFT; PNT; RLT;…
Acronyms of (some) of the modalities I have trained in, inform my work with clients. But what is more important for you to know is this one tip:
40% of what works in therapy is down to the resonance between the therapist and the client. Please feel free to book time for a conversation with me about your situation and what it is you want from therapy. That must be the best 15 minutes you’ll every NOT spend (since this is free of charge) on your wellbeing.
